summary: Museum Educators are the primary contact for visitors to the Fairbanks Children’s Museum and those visitors are always our top priority. A friendly, outgoing personality and excellent customer service skills are necessary for this job, as well as confidence and comfort in interacting with children and adults alike. Museum Educators interact with families to create positive learning experiences for both children and their caregivers. Museum Educators are responsible for the overall presentation of museum galleries and creative spaces, as well as ensuring a clean and welcoming environment. The Fairbanks Children’s Museum is a busy family space and staff are constantly moving. Museum Educators also support the admissions desk, help to host birthday parties, and assist in any other areas of the museum as needed.
essential responsibilities:

provide hospitality to children and their caregivers by greeting each visitor, offering information, answering questions, and providing general assistance through all parts of their visit

assisting parents, caregivers, and children from a place of non-judgment, often during high-stress moments in their days

provide support for FCM volunteers and staff

communicate issues to supervisor as needed

perform opening and closing duties
-
clean, reset, and restock exhibits as needed throughout the day

help with preparation for and clean up of programs, birthday parties, and special events
-
light cleaning of other areas the FCM staff is responsible for (sanitizing toys, taking out trash, cleaning and stocking restrooms, etc.)

assist with preparing and sorting materials for exhibits and activities

participate in or lead programming activities, classes, and/or camps

qualifications, knowledge, skills & abilities:

must have reliable transportation to and from work

interest in early childhood education

experience working with children 0 to 10 years old

excellent communication skills

ability to interact positively and confidently with a diverse group of children and adults

ability to take initiative on completing tasks in a timely manner
